It's hard to believe that I started my writing journey just one year ago. This past year I have my time confronting my fears and coming to terms with what life has thrown at me. I realized that I no longer have to feel ashamed for what has happened, because I was not control of other peoples actions. Once I accepted this, I was able to work through all of the emotions that I have pushed away for all these years. While I still hold out hope that I will find representation for my book so that others will also began to realize that they are not at fault for what has happened to them, I am thankful that I was able to use my writing as a way to heal myself. Words are amazing and very powerful...and you don't even have to hear them to be moved by them. Just being able to read and take in what is in front of you will be enough to capture your soul.
Today was spent working on the website where I added a guest book and a forum. It is my hope that people will use the message boards to talk about their own experience; how it affected them, and how they worked towards recovery. I know there are millions of people out there who have never spoken about their abuse, either out of shame or fear. Hopefully they will find it easier to write about it, rather than having to say the actual words. For many, this may be their first step towards dealing with their pain.
I would like to send a big thank you out to Lisa Buske. She has been working on getting her own book published, and has taken the time out to ask me if she could share my website on her blog. I am so flattered and grateful for the support. I have much faith that in 2011 everyone will get the opportunity to read two new heartfelt books written in Upstate NY!
Happy New Year to all. I am excited to say that I started out 2011 with sending out a book proposal to a new publisher! It can take several months for them to review the material and get back to me with a decision, but I am hopeful that they might find that the story will fit their needs. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on the progress, and I would like to send a big thank you to everyone who has visited and "liked" my facebook page.
I have the privilege of being able to shape the minds and lives of children who are battling disabilities. It can be very trying at times, but more often than not it is very rewarding. As a mother of a child with a disability, I know the struggles that they go through on a daily basis. This allows me to have a little more compassion for the people that I work with.
