Good Bye & Good Luck

Tomorrow morning my dear friend and writing accountablity partner will be packing her bags and leaving.  While I will miss her, I am very excited at the same time.  No, she is not leaving forever, but instead venturing on a journey of a lifetime.

Lisa is heading to the Greater Philedlphia Writer's Conference to pitch her book to agents in hopes of getting it published.  This very well could be the last step that Lisa needs to take before finding her memoir on the bookshelf of Barnes & Nobel.

The past several weeks for her have been spent perfecting her elevator pitch, studying the do's and don'ts of interviewing agents, and of course deciding what to wear when she becomes discovered.

While Lisa will be missing her friends and family while gone, she will busy around the clock absorbing the huge wealth of knowledge that surrounds such conferences.  The networking possibilites for her are endless, so she is going prepared with fresh contact cards and minature chocolates labeled with her name and website to hand out.  Now there's a girl who knows how to get noticed!

So I bid you farewell Lisa as you embark on the first day of the rest of your life.  The search begins....for your book, your sister, and a new life.

Heidi Allen Community Garden

17 years ago Heidi M. Allen was kidnapped from her place of employment, never to be heard from again.  Since then her sister Lisa Buske has made it her mission to keep Heidi's memory alive. She has spoken pubically  to raise awareness, taken part in the Ride For Missing Children, and has also written a book about her sister's abduction.  But there was still a need to help ease the pain of having to drive past the exactly spot where her sister was lost, so Lisa spearheaded another project. In 2009 the Community Garden in memory of Heidi M. Allen broke ground, bringing with it a symbol of hope for those who have lost loved ones.

Tomorrow the community will gather once again to renew their hopes and their dedication to remember Heidi.  At 12:30 caring citizens will gather at the Sun Up gas station (formerly D&W) where Heidi was kidnapped and take part in an annual spring cleaning & planting event. The day will be spent reviving the garden in honor of Heidi. While I never got the opportunity to meet Heidi, it is easy to see how much she was loved by the amount of support she has received from her community over the years.  I would like to encourage all of you to continue that tradition and come and partcipate with us.

For more information on this event or on Heidi Allen, please visit her sister's website at LisaBuske.Weebly.Com or Facebook.com/LisaBuske

Whine and Dine, then work !

Another night spent pouring over the details of the words that I hope to share with the world.  I want to make sure that not only am I getting my ideas out clearly for everyone to understand, but that they are poetic enough to engage the reader where they want to get to the next chapter to find out what will happen next.  This may take three, four, or even five times or more before I am completely satisifed with my work.  Occasionally, there is a sentence or even a paragraph that gets thrown in the scrap pile and replaced with something new that will take the book in a whole different direction.  It is true that success is 1% inspirtation and 99% persipration.

I am greatful to have a wonderful friend to bounce ideas off off, and for her daughter who keeps my own daughter occupied while I work.  The input that I receive in invaluable and allows me to see what the reader is thinking and feeling while reading my story.  This allows me to tailor my book more to the readers needs, and not just for my benefit of writing.

Lisa and I enjoyed yet another nutricious dinner together with our paperwork spread throughout the table.  We whined about parking spaces and the realiability of the bathroom scales, but when it came to our work we were all business.  There is no room for joking around when it comes to our books!!  I have to admit that we are both very commited to our projects and neither of us will be satisified until we are doing book signings at Barnes & Noble.  At which point I hope to see all of you standing in line waiting to get the first autographed copy from your favorite author  <3

I have the privilege of being able to shape the minds and lives of children who are battling disabilities.  It can be very trying at times, but more often than not it is very rewarding.  As a mother of a child with a disability, I know the struggles that they go through on a daily basis.  This allows me to have a little more compassion for the people that I work with.
